Wit Works has been contracted in 2016-17 by the Province of BC to increase local Sunshine Coast capacity to counter racism by providing public education, the Diversity Film Festival, and workshops on cultural competency.

A small group of Sunshine Coast  citizens joined April to work on developing capacity  to take positive action to strengthen our communities. With April’s guidance, a protocol was produced to outline responsibilities of citizens, first responders, and other capacity builders, in the case of racial or hate inspired incidents happening locally. The thrust of the protocol is to create a reasonable and just response, within the Canadian legal framework, to identify, educate and respond firmly but non-violently to activities causing harms to human rights.

Further funding to widen the organizations with capacity to respond, is being sought from EmbraceBC for 2017-18.
